Emily Chosse Ross (1839-1912)

Emily Chosse was born was born in Ontario, Canada on November 6, 1839 to Joseph and Emily Chosse. Her surname was listed as Chosse on her daughter Margaret's marriage record, while her own death record gives the name Chasse. In the 1861 census of Canada Emily can be found listed as "Emily Sochie", age 17 and working as a servant in the household of Murdoch Ross in Lancaster, Glengarry, Ontario. Also in the household, but not listed with the rest of Murdoch's family, is David Ross, a carpenter age 33. In reality it is believe that Emily was about 21 and David 38. They were married at Alexandria Bay later that year and, according to family tradition, they had eloped. They lived at Lancaster, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada from at least 1863 until 1891 when they moved to a property at the foot of Mt. Ida in Salmon Arm, British Columbia near Kamloops. She became a widow in 1896 and she passed away on November 29, 1912 at the home of her son in Vancouver, British Columbia.
