Isaac Sheldon was born in Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island on August 5, 1730 to Thomas Sheldon and Harriet Winters. He married his cousin Sarah Gifford, daughter of Jabez Gifford and Dinah Sheldon, in about 1754. By 1776 he was living in Pawling, Dutchess, New York when he was listed on the Board of Sequestration for Dutchess County during the Revolution. He was still there when listed in Pawling for the first Federal Census in 1790 but moved to Willsboro, Essex, New York by 1800. His will was written in the town of Essex in 1808, at which time he was living in the Brookfield Patent. His will was recorded in June of 1813. Several trees say that he died July 13, 1813 but this is not possible as his will was already recorded on June 28, 1813 and he is listed as deceased.
